Student information system
built around your school's records

One record per student with their parents, class, attendance, marks per term and fees. Staff keep it up to date, and each parent signs in to see their own children.

What it holds for every student

Details and admission number

Name, admission number, class and section, date of birth, joining date and status, with staff-only notes.

Parents and siblings

One or more parents per student with their phone and relation. Brothers and sisters share a parent, so the family is linked once.

Attendance history

Every day's mark from the class register, the rate for the last 30 days and the latest absences with their reason.

Results per term

Marks per subject and term, totals, grades and the class teacher's remark, printed as a report card PDF or shared as a link.

Fees and receipts

What was charged, what was paid with its receipt number, and what is overdue.

Access by role

Teachers and the office see the whole school, parents only their children, students only themselves.

How it works in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Start from this page

Press Start your student records app. The School starting point is picked and a first request is written for you.

  2. 02

    Import your students

Refinar creates the app with sign-in and a real database in about a minute. Import your class lists from Excel, or add students one by one.

  3. 03

Add the fields your school keeps

Blood group, transport route, house, previous school: ask for them in a sentence and they join the form, the record and the export. Launch when it is ready; the code and the database are yours.

What a student information system is, and what this one is not

A student information system (SIS) is where a school keeps its student records: who they are, who their parents are, which class they are in, whether they came today, how they did each term and what they owe. Teachers and the office write to it, parents read their part.

This app keeps those records for one school. It is not a university system with credits and transcripts, it does not send data to UDISE+, state or board portals, and it makes no claim to be a certified SIS. It is your school's own database, which you can change.

Questions

What is in a student information system?

The student's details and admission number, their parents, class and section, daily attendance, marks and report cards per term, and fees. Most also hold announcements to families and a login for parents, as this one does.

Is a student information system the same as a school management system?

They overlap. SIS usually means the student records themselves; school management system usually adds the running of the school, such as fees and timetables. This starting point has both the records and fees, attendance and announcements. See the school management system page for the running side.

Can I bring my existing student list?

Yes. Save your spreadsheet as CSV and import it: name, admission number, class, gender, date of birth and one parent's name, phone and email per row. Rows with a problem are listed with their row number and the rest are imported.

Who can see a student's record?

Staff of the school, with what their role allows. A parent sees only the children linked to their account through the link the school sends them, and a student sees only their own record.

How much does it cost?

Building the app and changing it use credits from your Refinar plan, and hosting is part of launching it. The details are on the pricing page.
